The annual trip to Disneyland Paris is for different children each
year, typically for those who have lost relatives in the previous
twelve months. Trips are normally carried out at Easter, but always
in school holidays so that children of school age are not taken away
from their education.
The
trips are very informal with no counselling or similar activities—a genuine
holiday break with no requirement to stick together as
one group. The charity funds return coach travel from hotel near Heathrow to the
Airport, return flights from Heathrow to Charles De Gaulle, transfer
to Disneyland Paris, two nights in a luxury hotel on site and three
day passes to the Park itself. Adequate insurance cover is also provided.
Whenever possible, a small amount of additional funding is also provided
to ensure each child has a toy or souvenir to bring home as well as
assisting with the purchase of meals, although breakfast is included
at the hotel.
In
this way, the cost to families is kept to just a small amount of spending
money they may choose to bring. All they really need to do is
get themselves to the hotel with a passport!
Typically
on day one of the trip we set off early from the hotel by coach
to catch a flight from Heathrow at around 7 a.m. This way we can arrive
at our luxury on-site hotel at around the time the Park opens. We
dump our bags and off families go to have a fun day in the Park, worrying
about unpacking later.
On day two we may start with a character breakfast—an eat-as-much-as-you-like
hot and cold breakfast surrounded by some of Disney’s
favourite characters who come and join you. Then back into the Park
to spend the day as you choose, again as your own family—not
having to go around as a large group.
On day three we start with a continental breakfast (sometimes this
is swapped with the day two breakfast) before the final day in the
Park. As the Park starts to close it’s time to take the coach
back to the airport, finally returning to Heathrow very late in the
evening—just to ensure the children sleep well after their
Disney adventure! |
